Is carers insurance a legal requirement?
The simple answer to this question is no, carers insurance isn’t a legal requirement and you aren’t obligated to have it. However, it’s something that’s highly recommended. Not only do you want to ensure the safety of the person you’re caring for, but also yourself. Any kind of insurance is designed to give peace of mind in the event of an accident and this is no different. If you’re serious about caring, getting insurance is a very good idea. Carers insurance can provide protection for things such as damage to property and accidental injury to the person in your care.

Carers insurance can vary depending on the company and the policy. At Blue Badge Mobility Insurance, we offer standard cover for one year starting at £75 a year. Do I need carers insurance if I’m self-employed?
If you are a self-employed carer you won’t qualify for employers’ liability insurance. This means it’s even more important for you to protect yourself with carers insurance. Even if you have multiple clients, depending on the insurer they are usually all covered under your insurance. No matter how careful or experienced you are, caring for someone comes with risks. Having insurance is both sensible and shows you are professional and serious about your job.
